Senior Associate Technologist


The Project Manager will plan, schedule and manage all aspects of the Oil & Gas, Marine and Electric Power Design to Order (DTO) projects assigned to them.


Product range 3500, C175, 3600 and C280 plus some small gas engine applications. This could require up front pre sale questions from A&I Engineers and Sales Support Engineers (SSE's) if required, during formation of the quote.


Other internal departments in communication will be: Marketing, Accounting, DTO and Production Engineering, Performance Engineering, Supply Chain and LEC Operations.   

Facilitate and lead the project kick-off and follow-up meetings (internal and external). Assure that the results of these meetings are documented, distributed and maintained.


Manage all aspects of the project schedule to assure that the product (with ship loose material) is completed/shipped on time, complete as per the order. This involves working with 3rd party shippers and Caterpillar Trade Lane Management on securing vessel bookings. 


Manage timelines of engineering activities, drawing submittals and approvals, progress schedules, process Change Orders submittals/approvals, document submittals, and project support until commissioning of engines has been completed.


Manage purchase requisitions, procurement & scheduling of material (when not driven using normal Supply Chain processes) such as free issue material. The Project Manager will work with Operations to insure that normal plant processes can and will support the project schedule.


Accomplish key deliverables as defined within the DTO quote while, at the same time, maintaining a high level of dealer and end user satisfaction. Timely, consistent, concise, proactive dealer and customer communication is key in making this happen. Key deliverables could be defined as Vendor Document Requirement Lists (VDRL), Punch Lists, documented exceptions, Inspection Test Plans (ITP's) and Facility Acceptance testing (FAT) and various technical questions. 


Monitor that the financial results of the projects meet or exceed the profit targets set in the project quotation. This includes overseeing the cost of materials and services and managing schedules so to avoid liquidated damages or other performance penalties.  


Basic Qualifications: 

  • 5-7 years of progressive, relevant experience. 

  • 3 - 5 years Project Management experience preferred  


Top Candidates Will Also Have: 

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar products and witness test procedures a plus 

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills 

  • Strong Initiative and ability to begin working independently 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
